Hunting Property Trail Work and Grading in Hillman

When you've got 1,000-plus acres to manage, getting through your own property shouldn't be the hard part. Low spots, standing water, and trails that turn into a muddy mess after any rain - that's a real problem. It cuts you off from food plots, stand locations, and sections of land you're trying to manage. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this property in Hillman.

The trails here had some serious problem areas. Deep, saturated low spots that would swallow a truck and leave you stuck well before you got close to where you needed to be. We're talking the kind of mud that doesn't care how capable your rig is - it wins. Our job was to build those sections up, get the grade right, and give the owner a trail system that actually holds up.

We brought in the track machine and got to work digging out the soft spots and pulling in material to raise the low areas. Custom grading is what makes this last - if you just dump fill in without thinking about how water is going to move, you're back in the same situation after the first hard rain. We cut it to drain, built it up where it needed height, and packed it down solid.

The trail is coming along the right way. There's still more ground to cover out there, but the sections we've finished are already a completely different story. The owner can actually get in and access parts of this property that were basically cut off before. That matters whether you're scouting, hauling equipment to a food plot, or just trying to keep tabs on the land you own.
